X-Mas lists

I spend a disproportionate amount of time writing to my players.

Over the course of a week, I'll:
- Post updates or practice plans on the teams social media page (3-8 posts per week)
- I'll answer texts or tweets from players (some weeks none, some weeks 20+)
- Write a point form list of things I've seen good and bad in the previous week to focus player's in the coming practices and games. (each player gets one per week)
- Send emails of upcoming info out to players and parents. (1-3 per week)
- Each league game players are provided with a pregame/scouting report sheet detailing what we want to focus on on offense, defense, and intangibles.
- Every road trip players are provided with a an itinerary/ schedule and list of information they will need to know.

You would think that seeing my school team everyday in halls, classes, practices and games would be enough but the players I have now really seem to appreciate and respond to the personal responses and written sheets to be handed. Reaching out to them on their platforms and taking the time to write things down and/ print them off to give to them seems to have as much impact as anything else we do to communicate.

I bring this up because twice a year I give them report cards on their performance. The first report is anecdotal and goes out at X-mas. It thanks them for their efforts in the first half of the season and over a page or so details what I've seen and need to see.

Here is your x-mas list coaches. FOr what you need to do to win:

Winning isn't hard! It requires hard work to win meaningfully but the formula is pretty easy.

1 - Be more skilled and deeper with skill.
2 - Be in better physical condition then your opponents.
3 - Work harder,
4 - Train Harder.
5 - Compete at everything like its the most meaningful think you do.

That's it. The only thing you can't train is genetics.

If you show up to a game more trained, more fit, more intense, more prepared and more able you win.
